About Me

I am the sixth grade counselor at Homewood Middle School. My primary role is to help facilitate the transition from elementary school to middle school. This is a collaborative effort between the middle school and the elementary school staffs. I focus on helping students balance the demands of school, family and friends. Special attention is put on teaching "life skills" and character development that will serve students well in any classroom, job or social situation.

I am originally from Montgomery, Alabama. I completed my undergraduate studies at Alabama State University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language Arts Education in 1996. In 1998, I received my Master of Arts degree in English from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2002, I acquired my Educational Leadership Certification from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2004, I became an Educational Specialist and received my Ed.S. degree in Educational Leadership from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2007, I continued my studies and received my Certification in School Guidance and Counseling from The University of West Alabama.

I started my career in education in 1996. I joined the faculty and staff in Homewood City Schools in 1999. Prior to becoming a school counselor at Homewood Middle School in 2007, I taught high school English in Elmore County Schools (Stanhope Elmore High School-11th grade), Bessemer City Schools (Jess Lanier High School- 9th &10th grade), Homewood City Schools (Homewood High School-10th grade), and Homewood City Alternative School (grades 6th-12th).  In 2004, I was recognized and honored by the Birmingham-Post Herald with a Distinguished Teacher Award for being one of the top teachers in the Birmingham Metro Area.
